Therefore, at the beginning of starting the practice of meditation, have no complicated pictures in your mind. Nor you should think that meditation is a complex process. At its core, meditation is simply about relaxing and not letting yourself to be disturbed by routine anxieties.

Of course, if you are a beginner but very much into the domain of The Secret, Law of Attraction etc. and would like to manifest something specific then it is recommended that you may also refer to some meditation tips:

2. Selecting the right place or space for meditation

As a beginner you need a quiet place where you would not be disturbed or distracted for about 10 to 15 minutes. Especially when you are starting out, it would be helpful if the place is appealing to all your senses. This means that the corner of the house of the room you choose should be neat and clean, it should smell nice (but should not be excessively perfumed), the lights should not be very strong and preferably have dim lights. All this will help you to concentrate and relax.

3. Wear comfortable clothes

This is a natural extension of the previous point. As you do not want to be uncomfortable during the period of meditation, you may like to slip into loose comfortable and natural fabric clothes like cotton pyjamas and award tight clothes like jeans. Of course if it is cold you may take a comfortable woollen sweater, blanket or a shawl. Similarly if it is very hot then you may like to switch on the fan or the air-conditioner.

4. Making the environment conducive

During the practice of meditation period, the practitioner is supposed to sit still doing nothing. Hence it would be helpful that a comfortable cushion or meditation mat or meditation chair is chosen. Although mediation can be done even on a rock in a jungle, the idea is to sit comfortably and keep the spine straight. These accessories are easily available in the market and you can even order them online from amazon, eBay etc.

5. Keep a Relatively Light Stomach

Talking of distractions, an empty stomach as well as a loaded stomach are both distractions to the mind of the person engaged in the practice of meditation. This is rather difficult for the beginner in the path of meditation. Therefore, a good time to meditate is before having a meal. If you have just had food, you might fall asleep while meditating.

At the same time, do not try to meditate when you are very hungry.

You will find it difficult to concentrate due of hunger pangs or you may even keep thinking about food the whole time!

The ideal time to meditate is after two hours after having food.

6. Be consistent and regular

As a beginner, before you embark upon the journey of meditation, decide about the time. First, how long you want to meditate. Second at what time of the day you are going to meditate. While many experienced gurus of meditation recommend fifteen minute sessions twice a day, as a beginner you can start out with five minutes, once a day.

You should also try to meditate at the same time each day – at whatever time you choose. However, try to make meditation a resolute part of your daily schedule.

Once you have decided on a time frame, try to stick to it. Don’t just give up – whatever may be the reason. While all meditation tips given here are important, treat this as the golden meditation tip.
